I have Verizon and will be getting the Rogue in a couple of weeks for my upgrade! I'm pretty excited to get this new phone... it will be a huge upgrade for me! I currently have a little cheapy flip phone with a cruddy camera! So with a new fancy phone I don't quite understand certain things, such as a data plan.

Verizon wants me to get a data plan 25MB for $9.99 or 75MB for $19.99. A few questions I have are... what is a data plan, why do I need it, and how much would I need?

Thank you in advance for any thoughts!!  Smiley

Well when you use the Web Browser or Check Email or even download a game from Verizon, You use data.. its a way for Verizon to measure and charge for the bandwidth you use...
With the Rogue you WILL NEED some type of data plan...

The most economical way to have UNLIMITED DATA usage is to upgrade you current plan.  I had the Family Select Plan...  It cost me $10.00 a month to upgrade to the Connect Plan.  Mine is the only one of (3) that is now on the Connect Plan...  You have to upgrade the Owners Line first. IE: I was the main account holder.  You can upgrade all the lines on a Select Family Plan to a Connect Plan for $10.00 each...  A Whole lot cheaper then paying for a 25mb or 75mb option.

Hope this helps.. if you have anymore questions on the subject, please feel free to ask..

Ok great, thank you! So with the unlimited data plan I could use the web, email, etc? Would I have to pay for internet on the phone or is the data plan kind of like the internet?

Thank you for your help!

If you get an unlimited data plan you can go on the internet as must as you want.........
If you end up getting the 25mb or 75mb plan, you can keep decent track of your data usage on the Verizon Wireless site... you need to have a 'My Verizon' account...  You can go there and create one at anytime..

I think the best overall plan for a phone such as the Rogue would be the Connect Plan.  It gives you unlimited data usage and unlimited texting.  If you upgrade to this, you don't have to change the amount of talk minutes you already have, those can stay the same if you want. And if you have more than one phone on your plan, it will only be 9.99 for the other phone to also get the unlimited text and data.  For example, I was pay $90 a month for two phones.  When I upgraded to the Connect Plan, it only cost $20 more ($109) for both phones.

You can also access the usage right on your phone via <menu><recent calls><timers> and scroll down to data.

Only catch is you have to reset the counter with each billing cycle.

FedEx should be bringing my Rogue this afternoon. When I ordered it online, I chose the $9.99/25MG plan, because you had to select one of the options to order the phone. I figured I'd upgrade to Connect when I have the phone.

This morning I checked the Verizon site, and don't see Connect Plan offered. I currently pay $90 for the Talk & Text plan with 700 minutes. I have a Samsung Omnia, and have Unlimited Web & Email for Smartphones. Obviously, that's of no benefit to me, since the Rogue isn't technically a Smartphone. But upgrading to Connect doesn't appear to be an available option from their site.

My question - should I find away to upgrade to the Connect plan - am I correct in understanding that it will be about $10/mo extra for the Connect plan, and that I will no longer pay the $9.99/mo for the 25MB data plan?

I hope this all made sense, I'm very sleep deprived today.
Denise

Edit: I just found on a post from January that the Connect plan was phased out, so I can stop trying to figure that one out. So I just have to make sure I get the plan I want for data. Either $9.99/25MB or $29.99/75MB. I'm confused about this also, though. Under Verizon's plans, they show the $29.99/mo data plan being unlimited, not 75MB. I think the Plan section of their site is a little confusing. I wouldn't think so if I weren't reading other things elsewhere. But since this forum is full of Verizon customers who know what they're paying for and getting for their money, I take that fully into consideration.

They also phased out the 75mb $19.99/mth plans in favor of the $29.99/mth unlimited. So its either a little (25mb for $9.99/mth) or alot (unlimited for $29.99/mth)

If you plan to use the browser, email, what not, i would get unlimited. As once you go over 25mb i believe its 1.99per MB.  Some days i barely use 25MB, other days i've used over 100MB. But i stream lots video occasionally.
