OK - the queston is, what's the best bit rate for use on the Rogue?

Music from VZ Rhaposdy saves to the phone at 64kbps.

Media Player 10 rips CDs and saves music to your PC at 128kbps (default) but is changable from 32 to 196kbps.
~ then syncs to phone at whatever rate save on PC (default 128kbps)

VZ Rhapsody software saves music at 256kbps (for songs download as part of a phone purchase) but imports music from PC "Music" folder at what ever the rate it was originally ripped (in this case, 128kbps via Media Player 10 action).

Putting music on the Rogue at 128kbps makes file sizes 5-9 meg, at 62kbps its roughly half that.

But I'm also concerned with sound quality almost as much as drive space.

So - what's the best of both worlds? What's the best rate for quality without killing a memory card? I also don't want to feed th eRogue a bit rate too high that it will struggle playing it.

Suggestions?

I personally use 128k bit... mainly it is because like you stated, Its the default rip setting, not just for Ms Media Player either, many program I use to Rip, Mod, Edit Audio use this setting as well...
Quality at this setting is fine.. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 128k and higher settings while listening on a Phone or iPod device..

As for size.. I have an average of 800 megs worth of Music on my 8gb (about 125 songs) These are of mixed bit rates.. 128k - 320k..  The 320k's were acquired at that rate (downloaded)

Any of you Audiophile types want to input here please do....  I know your out there Smiley

Thanks for your input Axis.

I have 368 songs taking 1.4GB on a 16GB card. Most are 128kbps sync'd from MS MP10, a few are 64kbps direct downloads from VZ.

I agree with you that through headphones it's hard to tell a decernable difference between 64kbps and 128kpbs. Hence I'm considering slicking my card and starting over at the lower rate - just for the phone.

Still wondering what other - better informed than I - think.

I am a Audiophile. My home system in part is a C.A.T. Tube pre amp (Made in Axis's area) feed into a Krell KSA 300s Class A amp, Theta CD tranport and D.A converter, Conrad Johnson sonagraph turntable, Thiel 3.6s Speakers, Vandersteen 2CE speakers, Velodyne F1500 Subs.. I have made MP3's with bit rates in the 300's. On my home system and thru my Stax headphones i can tell the difference between 128 and 256. But playing thru a regular mp3 player and the rogue I can't. I also can't tell the difference on my home system with earphones or at least the few I have tried in the past. I am going to try some better ear phones soon. With Bit rate's in the 300's I still can tell which is the CD and which is the mp3 on my home system.
