So, I picked up the Samsung Rogue a little over a week ago and so far I've really enjoyed the phone. The voice sound very clear, it's fairly easy to navigate, I love the keyboard, and the touchscreen works wonderfully without any tuning on my behalf. I do, however, have one very serious problem. I'm an avid texter... I text my girlfriend on my phone ALL DAY LONG. That's where the problem comes into play because after about 3 days the phone tells me that it has low memory and I have to delete texts or I will cease receiving new ones!! The phone itself has over 500MB of free space on it still and I just added a 16GB microSD card, thinking that would solve the problem, but nope. My last phone (a Treo 650) had 6 YEARS worth of texts on it and never once did it complain to me about memory. What's going on???

How many texts do you have on your phone when it says that?

I have no way of knowing for sure without counting every single one, but I'd guess approximately 100.

If you set your message view settings to 'by time', it will revert to the old style of 'inbox' & 'outbox'..
Which will let you SEE exactly how many msgs you have currently saved in your phone...
You can always switch the message view setting back to 'by 'contact' after..
This way you will get an idea on how many msgs the phone will hold before it requires deletion...

My old Lg Env would only hold roughly 100...  My Rouge has been over 300 before "I" decided on my own to delete'em...   Not sure how many it will hold, would be nice to know though..........

Today it started telling me that memory was running low and I would have to delete text messages, again. I decided to ignore it to see if it would really stop receiving text messages and sure enough about 30-50 texts later it said I would no longer receive texts until I made space. That's just ridiculous... Unfortunately, I deleted all of them before I read your post, so I don't know how many I was at. The phone should hold text messages until it is physically out of memory or until I decide I no longer want them and not a moment earlier. If space really was an issue than it should give me the option to save my chat logs to my microSD. I'm severely disappointed... If the Storm 2 is coming out next week (seems like it's just a big rumor right now, but we'll see) I will definitely be returning this phone and exchanging it for a new storm.

Oh - wow! My Rogue has held 330 sent and 272 received, and I have a 1gig SD card in it. Thats doesn't seem right. I don't believe the SD card matters, though - since I take mine out to upload images it never effects my messages.

The only other thing I was thinking was your phone my be holding alot in it's internal memory instead of going to the memory card? So it's limited to the amount of memory it has. Just a thought, though.

i have to agree with simplysweetness on this.  most phone i have used have a very small capacity for messages,  while it would be great if they would fill up there full memory space with texts they just dont,  my current phone prior to my rogue is a original LG ENV and it will hole 50 in and outbox messages despite and 2gb microsd and nothing on internal memory besides contacts.  my guess, non-smartphones don't moves messages into non dedicated memory.

The Rogue holds 512mb if internal and he mentioned he had a Palm Treo 650 which has 23mb of internal memory so pretty much, the Treo would need to hold things on a memory card... so yea, I agree w/ cobra - non-smartphones don't have the option of moving messages onto SD.

Official response from the Samsung tech support guys is that the Rogue holds 3.1mb worth of SMS and there's no possibility of expanding that or transfering the conversation to SD. Too bad... Storm 2, here I come...

I don't honestly see the huge bother of not being able to hold my conversations from months ago?

Yeah, I don't either.  I think the longest I've kept any message is a week.  3.1MB of space for SMS is more than enough for normal use.

We are talking about someone who said he texts his girlfriend "all day long". Maybe rather than get a new phone he should just quit being a pu**y?
