I smashed my digitizer screen the other day but it looks like the LCD screen is alright. It still works but it looks bad. Has anybody ever replaced their screen before? How do I take it apart to get the old one off? Please let me know if you know how or have a link to a site that does. Thanx.

My wife just did the same thing. I purchased the digitizer screen from the following site (took about 10 days with standard delivery. http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-Rogue-U960-s/5570.htmThe tough part is taking the phone apart. The following link describes this very well. The only step missing is removing the front cover. There are 5 screws. Two of the screws you can see when you slide the phone open. The other three are visible if you partially close the slide. Note: Be very careful not to damage the flex cable ribbon. http://www.samsung-rogue.com/index.php?topic=639.0

Hehehe, thats my topic =] I've actually got a digitizer from my previous Rogue, along with the motherboard etc.. the only reason I don't use it is because I broke the ribbon cable connecting the mobo and screen assembly.

I saw that disassembly post the other day. You're right, its great for taking apart the back but I need to disassemble the front. I see the 2 screws on the back of the front but do I have to remove the back cover to see the other 3 when the slide is partially closed?

Yes, you have to follow the other post and remove the back. Once the back and motherboard have been removed you will be able to see the other three screws. Once you have removed the 5 screws and separated the front from the slide, you will expose the back of the LCD screen. On the back of the lcd screen (opposite the flex cable ribbon) you will see three small flat leads connected. These will need to be disconnected to remove the lcd screen (you do not have to disconnect the the large flex cable ribbon). There is a flat black tab on each of these connections that needs to be lifted up so the lead can be removed. After this you should be able to remove the digitizer.

Word of caution.... As "frankieyay" noted the flex cable ribbon is a little fragile. I actually ordered an extra flex cable with my new digitizer panel. Good thing, because I also damaged the flex cable in my first attempt to disassemble the phone (cut it when removing the back). I was successful changing the digitizer but it was a little stressful. Remember the first rule of working on electronics... discharge any static in your hands/tools etc

If you haven't done it yet, I'll post some pics of the screws etc.. that you need to remove. Pic one: circles indicate screws.. lines indicate tabs under the plastic (I may have missed a few) Pic two: Yellow is button/mic assembly and cable Blue is where the digitizer connects to the screen logic board Red is the earphone/light sensor assembly and ribbon cable <edit> Purple is where the screen connects to the logic board Not labeled: lower middle of the screen is where the ribbon cable connects the two halves of the phone Pic three: Is what you DONT do.. your phone will work however the buttons wont work nor will the screen

Thanks for all the info, I think I'm good to go now. I've repaired (and broken) some ipod nanos so I have experience with the tiny ribbon cables and how easy they are to mess up. My main issue was getting the phone apart without breaking something. I'm going to give it a try this weekend when I'll have time to do it right. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Success!!! I got my screen replaced without any problems thanks to all the valuable information I got here. I have a few things to add to help anybody else doing this job. First, I used a plastic non-marring pry tool to seperate the plastic case and remove the digitizer screen itself. I got mine with ipod batteries and screens I ordered but you can probably find them elsewhere. It allows you to put the pressure you need to seperate parts without scratching the plastic.
When you have the back cover off, remove the large black ribbon cable that connects the two halves together by gently lifting alternately on both sides of the connector to rock it loose. This will allow you to lift out the mother board and gain access to the screws holding the front and back together.
After lifting out the motherboard you now remove the eight screws attached to the slide assembly (four on each side). Once removed the front and back can be seperated giving you access to all five screws that hold the cover on the back of the front.

Follow the other directions to disconnect the ribbon cables holding the digitizer and LCD screens in. The ribbon cables are released by very gently lifting the black plastic latch with a small screwdriver. Be very careful because these latches are easily damaged. Make sure they are back up when reinserting the cables and also make sure the white lines match up to ensure the ribbon is fully inserted.
The digitizer screen is just held on with adhesive so you can slide your pry tool around the edges to get it off making sure not to damage the LCD screen underneath. Reconnect the digitizer ribbon cable first before reinserting the LCD screen. This gets it out of the way and prevents it from being damaged.
Good luck and thanks again for everyone's help.

Is this done by dropping it? I had my New Rogue for about a month to 6 wks when I dropped it in my kitchen and the screen cracked. Everything else worked great just looked bad and I wasn't sure if things would continue to go bad cause the crack was spreading. I instead chose to get a Certified Preowned Rogue from Verizon for $50. BIG mistake! I wish I had known someone who could have fixed it instead! I am now on my 3rd phone and still have problems with each one! I was better off with the broken screen! At least the rest of the phone worked!

Thats so weird that your screen cracked by dropping it on a kitchen floor, today I dropped mine from my ear while hanging up on a call onto concrete and it didn't appear to be damaged at all. I even continued to reply to a text message :p

Whew! Another successful digitizer replacement thanks to this thread! One thing I thought I'd stress is that when you replace the cable for the digitizer, make sure you pop up the black part before you push in the cable, then push the black piece back down to lock it in! Took me a few minutes to figure that out!
Thanks for all the help!

I just registered for this site after stumbling upon this thread. While jogging on the treadmill I dropped my phone, it landed on the track, slid down to then end, then a spot near the top of it got terribly scratched. I hate how it looks so I'm going to attempt to do the same as all of you. I might just make a video as well and put it on youtube since I didn't find any there. I have fixed about 9 iPods so I hope that experience will help me.

Sigh. I just tried replacing my digitizer with a new one and now the touch screen is nonresponsive. Works in all other ways.
It has gone from some semi functional to completely useless, now.
Any ideas?
